The box is an architectural solution in its simplicity; a box can be as brilliant as a light tower or as dull as a tombstone for the city. In this dialogue of a building as generic high-rise prototype within the city, we pursue brilliance in simplicity.
A central atrium opens up the building to the site's immediate environment, marking the continuation of the urban plaza. Sunny and cool, it provides an indoor public gathering space free from the extreme exterior weather of Shenzhen. By transforming the private space into the public domain, it is exploring a possible inherent logic that an individual building can obtain from the city. The quality of the space is by no means important, while the appearance of textures and materials, the tension among subjects, is becoming more and more crucial. Combining glasses of various textures creates a fusion of reflections---- it records and reflects the changes of the projected surroundings; devoid of absolute transparency or reflection, it allows a plane with depth, with cast images overlapping each other under ambient light. The material of glass allows architectural variation without complicating the volume and geometry of the building.
