The limitation of contemporary city planning is that functional subdivision is over defined, which becomes the reason for separation and isolation in different areas of the city. Consequently, the continuity of the living experience and the organic development of the urban fabric are broken. The goal of our urban planning and design is to formulate a supportive urban structure, which overtime enables accumulation, overlapping, merging, and infiltration to reach the demanded thickness and meaning of the city.
The design partly adopts the original planning system; it increases the density of the streets to formulate blocks of comfortable scale and “micro-circulation” traffic system. It also transforms the original self-closed grid system into an open one, in order to form a multi-layered street system that is shared by both pedestrian and vehicular traffic, along with emphasis on the implementation of other factors. Through this operation, we transform the homogeneous city plots into special and unique zones, creating a condition of mixing and juxtaposition. All of the above coincide with the need for complexity and multiplicity in modern cities, so as to create an urban area which is no longer a rigid map of functional zones.
The connection between different areas of the city is not a simple compilation of vehicular speed. Human needs should be the primary concern of urban design. A city can become a real place to wander around and to be enjoyed by its residents, it can also become a medium and container fro different living styles. Meanwhile, the wanderer's movement through the city becomes the fluid that binds the various parts of the city both physically and mentally. Hence, a coherent, rich and diverse urban area has born.
