Turning a construction and its inner space into an event stimulating installation is one of the design motifs of the practice of URBANUS, which, needless to say, is carried into the interior design of URBANUS Shenzhen office. What a designers' office produces is not only blueprints, but also the designers themselves. Therefore, the working space should be a piece of equipment that can produce both professional work and foster individuality. On the one hand, it should provide an efficient and convenient device to ensure the quality of drawings and files produced in the office; one the other hand, it should furnish a machine that triggers the desire of creation, accelerating the collision of inspirations and information among the designers, to assure that the production of the office is based on a high level of criticism thinking of both individual and the team.
The setting of the later function means nearly half of the space in the URBANUS Shenzhen office is used for non-production functions. In this 420 m 2 office space, which was renovated from an old factory workshop, the space for drafting only occupies 148 m 2 ., and the office for the its partners seems even smaller than the one for a project manager in other firms. Hence, the most of the space is allotted to the lobby and library area, so-called “ cultural venue ” .
