Merchants Maritime and Logistics Ltd. Tower is built within a 3.5-square kilometer logistics park in Nanshan District, Shenzhen. Located at the southeast corner of the container field, the tower is in a neighborhood which will see construction work in the next ten years. Dust blown by the sea wind permeates the area all the time, and large-scale factory buildings, piled-up containers, sling carts, and fast-running cargo trucks all indicate that this is a place for industrial processes.

Based on this context, we put forward a concept to build the project as an oasis in the desert. Functionally speaking, the project consists of two parts: a document processing center and an office building on lease. These two elements form an L-shape. Also, an ecological square provides parking, leisure, entertainment facilities, and adequate circulation space for the public.

Big trees are planted on the square and a large water pool is designed at the entrance to the main building, with an aim to improve the arid, dry environment. Groves of vegetation between the buildings and service roads not only add different spatial layers, but also effectively block noise from the outside. In addition, courtyards and gardens within the building complex bring a human-scale to this office area, inundated by the enormous number of cargo trucks.
