ABSTRACT In the forms of depiction and ashback, through documenting the design process of the Botanic Garden of the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Expo., this article explores the themes such as metaphor, kitsch, and symbolism in designing the expo architecture, and gives a reflexive criticism on the issue of architecture as a spectacle in today’s consumerist society.
